Mission statement: Braiding the voices of Hilo – moving forward together.
The Hilo Downtown Improvement Association (DIA) is staffed by a 12-person volunteer Board of Directors. Our work is funded by donations, membership dues, grants, and special events. DIA has six committees, each chaired by a member of the DIA Board, to address different projects in our downtown: Beautification, Events, Membership, Marketing, Planning and Government Affairs, and Safety.
Want to get involved? Have talent you can share or a particular area of interest?
Our Committees would love to have your involvement! DIA implements cooperative actions with state and county agencies and other community groups. Issues we address include: public safety and security (vagrancy, theft, graffiti), public works projects (tree trimming, signage, parking, traffic), and beautification projects (planter boxes, landscape programs, banners/flags). In addition to representing the interests of downtown, DIA works actively to create and advertise events such as monthly First Fridays and Black and White Night, and to market Hilo as a destination for locals and visitors alike. Hilo is a unique place, and downtown is the heart of Hilo. DIA invites you to experience aloha… the culture, the activities, and the people of east Hawaii.
