Red & White Night comes to Downtown Hilo

Red & White Night comes to Downtown Hilo and you’re invited!  We are planning with Mayor Billy Kenoi’s office for The Magic of the Season, a series of events focused on lighting up (literally) the County Building and Downtown next month.

We’re asking everyone in Downtown Hilo to stay open late on Friday December 7th for RED &WHITE NIGHT!  That night the Dept. of Parks & Recreation will be installing and lighting up a Christmas Tree in Kalakaua Park at 6:30 p.m.  We’re asking everyone to light up their windows, buildings and properties at the same time and hope you’ll join us.  All you need to do is say “YES!” by filling out the form below and provide us with a prize to use for lucky drawings and contest winners (don’t worry, if you win, we won’t give you your own item!). Please let me know if you are participating by Friday November 30.

In addition to opening until late please have some sales and specials, offer free refreshments, caroling or other live music, book signings, artist receptions, demonstrations, etc.  We are also coordinating a Christmas Window Display Contest with “The Magical Lights of Downtown” theme. We’ll create a list of participating stores so people can wander around town looking at windows and voting then come to Kalakaua Park to see the lighting of the tree.  If you cannot stay open late on December 7, you are still welcome to create a display and enter the contest just please leave the lights on for that evening.

Windows must be ready by Thursday Dec. 6 and will be judged by a secret panel of judges between Dec. 7 and Dec. 14 with a special People’s Choice Award taking place on Friday Dec. 7 as part of Red& White Night. We have listed judging perimeters for the decorating contest below. Good luck andhave fun for it is the Season of Magic!
