Pacific Tsunami Museum
Hilo experienced two major Tsunami, 1946, and 1960. The Pacific Tsunami Museum features amazing exhibits, sharing deep insights into Hilo’s past. Before, during and after pictures of the destruction and of  of Hilo town as it once was.

Mokupapapa Discovery Center
FREE Ocean Discovery Center, sharing knowledge about the North-western Hawaiian Islands, the coral reefs, fishes, marine animals, and the environmental challenges of the area.

Imiloa Astronomy Center
Located on the UH Hilo campus, Imiloa is a planetarium and exhibit sharing the similarities between the ancient Hawaiian navigational astronomy and the modern astronomy of today.

Lyman Museum and Mission House
The Lyman family arrived in the islands in the 1830’s, and their home is now the oldest wooden structure in the islands. Tour the home, and visit the Smithsonian affiliated museum just next door.

Hilo Public Library / Naha & Pinau stones
Traditions tell us the Naha stone was brought from Wailua, Kaua‘i many centuries ago. The stone is part of Kamehameha the Great’s mythology, as it was through the lifting of this stone that he confirmed the prophecy that he would be a great warrior king.

Kalakaua Square
Home to a statue of King Kalakaua, THE Merrie Monarch, who designated this area as the first municipal area of Hilo in the 1870’s. Visit the ancient Sun-Dial, and view the Interpretive Signage to learn more about Kalakaua Square.

The Historic Palace Theater
Built in 1925, the historic Palace Theater is the venue for many wonderful films, concerts, and plays. A wonderful space to experience live theatre, if you have a chance to come to an event here, don’t miss it!

Kaipalaoa Landing
Between 1863 and 1890 wharves were built at the foot of Waianuenue Avenue where passenger and freight were transported to steamers. Efforts are being made to transform the area into the Kaipalaoa Historical Park.
